LSST:UK All Hands Meeting (Cardiff, 13th—15th May 2019)

Introduction

While we have organised an RAS discussion meeting, and parallel sessions at NAM, LSST:UK has not held an "all-hands meeting" before. Now seems a good time to do so, however, as Phase A is drawing to a close, and we are looking ahead to the start of Phase B, to be followed soon by the beginning of LSST Commissioning. In addition to the effort funded through the Phase A grants, many UK astronomers are now active within LSST Science Collaborations, so the aim of this meeting is to take stock of where the community stands in its preparations for LSST. Invited talks will review the Phase A workpackages and outline expectations for Phase B, while a lot of time will be reserved for contributed talks, in which we hope to hear - from early career researchers especially - what preparatory science is being undertaken by members of the LSST:UK Consortium.

Contributed talks

We are soliciting requests for contributed talks . To request a contributed talk:

  1. Send an email request to LUSC-CONFERENCE@jiscmail.ac.uk
  2. Ensure the subject reads  “LSST:UK Cardiff meeting contributed talk request (Surname)"
  3. Include your name, institute, position in the email.
  4. Include a title and maximum 200 word abstract

We are particularly interested in talks which relate to LSST data analysis, very large data sets, and synergy data sets.

We would also like to have a session on Machine Learning techniques, in which there is a series of short talks on what people are doing in the realm of machine learning in the UK. And an extended discussion on sharing experience and techniques and how this can be harnessed in the LSST era.

We hope that we can facilitate everyone who would like to give a talk, depending on demand. Contributed talks are likely to be between 10—15 mins in length.
