LSST:UK JANEC and the Election Cycle
Information on the LSST:UK Junior Associates Network Executive Committee (JANEC) and the Election Cycle for its members.
What is the JANEC?
The Junior Associates Network Executive Committee has four members. Two serve as representatives in the LSST:UK Executive Group (meet monthly), and two represent the JAN on the LSST:UK Consortium Board (meet biannually), voicing JAN's views in these meetings. All JANEC members serve 18-month terms, staggered so a chair and board representative are elected every nine months, ensuring experienced members are available to guide newcomers.
By default, JANEC members also serve on the JAN Organising Committee (JANOC), with the two serving as representatives on the Executive Group acting as co-chairs of the JANOC. The JANOC will mostly consist of an informal group of volunteers who keep the JAN running and ensure it benefits its members.
The LSST:UK Executive Group representatives/JANOC co-chairs are expected to take 6-8 hours per month of time and effort (two monthly meetings and dealing with time-critical issues/tasks in between), and the LSST:UK Consortium Board representatives are expected to take about 2 days per year of time/effort (two 3-4 hour meetings per year and reading before and after meetings, in addition to the 1 hour a month meeting of the JANOC). How will the elections work?
For this round of elections there will be one co-chair (and LSST:UK Executive group representatives ) and two LSST:UK Consortium Board representatives to be elected. One of the Consortium Board representatives will serve a 9 month term (as opposed to the 18 month term of the other two) alongside one of the current co-chairs.
