LSST:UK Short term data rights for project students
Short-term Junior Associate (JA) data rights of length up to one year may be awarded to a student (e.g. undergraduate, MSc or MPhys) undertaking a project. These can be applied for at any time of the year. Each applicant must supply the name and email address of an existing LSST:UK Affiliate Principal Investigator (PI) who will act as their sponsor.
The application is a two-stage process.
In the first stage, the individual applying for short-term JA data rights, must complete the form at https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/edinburgh/2025-lsst-junior-associate-short-term.
In this form the prospective JA is asked:
their name, institution and email address;
the email address of the Affiliate PI who will sponsor their application, and if applicable their project supervisor;
to confirm they have read the the LSST:UK Consortium's Privacy Statement and to consent to how the information they provide will be used;
to consent to the information they provide in their application being transferred to Rubin and hence USA and Chile;
to consent to their application being provided to their sponsoring Affiliate PI and if applicable their project supervisor;
to confirm their acceptance of and adherence to the LSST:UK Code of Conduct and the Rubin General Acceptable Use Policy;
the start and end date for the data rights; (Please note the data rights will be revoked the day after the end date specified.)
a brief description of the project by way of justification as to why data rights are needed.
In the second stage, the sponsoring Affiliate PI is contacted via email and provided with a copy of the prospective JA’s individual’s application form. The PI is asked to reply to the email to confirm that:
the information in the prospective JA’s application is correct;
the prospective JA is affiliated with an organisation eligible to hold an STFC grant; and
the prospective JA’s project supervisor, if that is not the PI themself, is a UK data rights holder.
An application will not be considered until both the above stages have been completed satisfactorily. An application is then considered by the LSST:UK Project Leader and if necessary this is referred to the Executive Committee.
The Affiliate PI and the JA applicant will both be informed of the outcome of the application.
If you experience technical problems completing the application form please contact the LUSC Project Manager, Terry Sloan (t.m.sloan@ed.ac.uk), while any policy questions should be addressed to the LSST:UK Consortium Board Chair, Mike Watson (mgw@leicester.ac.uk).
